BEADING TREASURE CHEST

I started beading about one year ago. I have always been attracted to the colors and textures of a bead store. I love trying different colors and shapes together and see how they turn out. I scan thru the bead shows taking it all in and designing in my mind. I have bags, trays, and containers of beads and gemstones from all over the world. I may not bead for weeks, then all of a sudden, I have ideas that just come to mind. I do purchase items that I may not use for awhile, then forget about them. Then all of a sudden, I get and idea and have to search thru all my "treasures" and find the perfect stone. I guess what I'm trying to say is, its almost like Christmas everytime I open my bags, trays, and containers. I love it.

Hanging Watches

Its that time of year where we get ready for the holidays. I participated in a home craft fair a few weeks ago. I met some wonderful people and had a great time. It rained so hard that day, but we had a great turn out. One of the girls I met, Brenda Matthews, makes the cutest hanging watches. Great for stocking stuffers, gift exchanges, moms, teachers, etc. They are not just for golfers. Brenda even makes custom color watches. Friends in Hawaii

I lived in Hawaii for several years. I have two wonderful boys. My oldest, Kevin, still lives on the island of Oahu. My youngest Kyle is serving his country in Iraq.
I would like to share a little info about a small business from Hawaii. It's called Hugs and Honis. It was started by a dear friend of Kevins. Her name is Natasha. It has been a dream come true for her. She launched her styles in Japan with rave reviews. With the help of her friends and family it is quite popular online. Please take a peek at her website and give her your support.

Green Coral Jewelry

I went to a bead show a few weeks ago in Sacramento. I found green coral from Australia. I'm sure it has been available but I have never seen it before. I purchased one strand and thought I would just put it away and forget I had it.

I took it out yesterday, and really looked at it. It is beautiful. Dark green and white marble with deep red. The pieces are abstract chunks rather than round or square. This is the most unusual and unique piece of jewelry I have made. I am so fond of earthy tones, green really didn't do much for me. Now that I have finished this necklace set, I love green.

Corals live in tropical waters throughout the world, generally close to the surface where the sun's rays can reach the algae. While corals get most of their nutrients from the byproducts of the algae's photosynthesis, they also have barbed, venomous tentacles they can stick out, usually at night, to grab zooplankton and even small fish.

Handcrafted Jewelry Made From Exotic Wood

I have just started creating jewelry from exotic woods from all over the world. I love the different colors and textures and mixing with sterling silver or glass beads. The different types of wood vary from mahogany, walnut, pine and cherry and redwood.

I have traveled to the Oregon coast and found Myrtlewood. Although different, Oregon Myrtlewood has a lot of similarities to the Myrtlewood growing in the Holy Land. Its a very unusual wood and makes beautiful jewelry boxes as well as furniture.

Taking care of your wood jewelry is very easy. Keep in a covered jewelry box and if your jewelry get dusty, wipe with a clean damp cloth. Oil is not recommended due the the possibility of getting on your clothes. Try something new, visit my website and see what is available.

Basic Color

To get the attention of a client, know your colors. Color in jewelry and fashion is very critical in attracting customers. Knowing and mastering the basic color wheel is a must. A color wheel or color circle is an organization of color hues around a circle, showing relationships between colors considered to be primary colors, secondary colors, complementary colors, etc. Color has a different meaning for many people, and can effect emotions. Color schemes are logical combinations of colors on the color wheel. Color schemes are used to create style and appeal. Colors that create an aesthetic feeling when used together will commonly accompany each other in color schemes. A basic color scheme will use two colors that look appealing together. More advanced color schemes involve several colors in combination, usually based around a single color. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_wheel
When creating your jewelry don't be afraid to use bold bright colors when your comfort zone is neutral soft colors. My favorite colors my entire life have been black and gray. When I purchased clothes or shoes, I always went for black. It took me a long time to get comfortable working with bright colors and textures. Once I did, I look at all color possibilities and create jewelry in many color combination. Get out of your comfort zone and experiment with EVERY color you would have not used before. You will be pleasantly suprised.

Beautiful Gray Labradorite

Labradorite is a gemstone of grey-green color, laced with brilliant, eye-catching blue-green flashes of color. Discovered in 1770, it is mined mostly in Northeastern Canada in the Labrador peninsula - hence its name. Labradorite is a tremendously spiritual stone. It helps us regain our energy and aids our bodies and spirits in healing themselves. Imagine a shimmering fountain with the sun's rays igniting blue sparks in the droplets. That's the subtle beauty of grey-blue labradorite with its beckoning blue flashes of color. Lovely with pearls, rainbow moonstone and iolite.

Large Gold Tone Mother of Pearl Donuts with Turqouise Coin Stones and Gold Tone Toggle Clasp

Beautiful gold tone Mother of Pearl Donuts and turqouise 10mm heshi stones. I love this color combination. The gold of the Mother of Pearl sets off the gold in the Turqouise heshi stones. I wanited to make something unusual, yet easy to wear. Turqouise is very popular in handcrafted jewelry. Turquoise is soft and porous when mined. To make it suitable for jewelry use, it is permeated with a clear resin. This 'stabilization' process hardens the turquoise, darkens its color, and makes it resistant to common chemicals such as swimming pool chlorine. Mixed and match with almost any stone makes it very popular.

Take Care of Your Gemstones

Gemstones are some of the most beautiful substances we know. They can be very expensive for a simple, yet small stone. That is why it’s very important to know how to take care of your gemstones.
It’s best to know as much as possible about your stone, so you know how to take care of it. There are mostly two types of gemstones. Transparent and opaque. Dirt and dust can be seen on transparent stones. Water and a soft cloth or soft brush can be used to gently clean away the dirt and dust. Never use harsh chemicals or abrasives. Scratches or breaks can reduce the value.
Opaque stones are more porous. Any water or chemical can go inside the stone. Therefore, they should be kept away from chemical, cosmetic sprays and even water.

You may also want to contact an expert jeweler or dealer that is well trained on how to care for your stones. Jewelry can be expensive and valuable, so should be taken care of.

Goldtone Mother of Pearl Shells with Swarovski Pearls Necklace and Matching Earrings

This beautiful three strand necklace is one of my favorite pieces. I have always love earthy and neutral tones and colors. This necklace is a mix of browns and golds, and a combination of mother of pearl and Swarovski Pearls.

The combination of colors will compliment any outfit. You can wear it with jeans and sweater or a simple cocktail dress.

Nacre, also known as mother of pearl, can be organic-inorganic material produced by mollusks. It is strong, resilient, and also iridescent. Used for jewelry as well as ornaments, very versatile and beautiful.

Swarovski Pearls, are the perfect imitation of the real thing. They begin as crystal spheres and coated with iridescent mother-of-pearl like coating. Besides the price, these pearls can be washed, dry cleaned, resist abrasion, perspiration, perfume.

Oval Lava Stone & Red "Finger" Sponge Coral Two Strand Necklace, Bracelet and Earrings Set

Beautiful Oval Lava Stone & Red "Finger" Sponge Coral Two Strand Necklace & Bracelet Set.

Sponge Coral is one of the most beautiful gem corals. It really isn't a sponge, it just looks like one. Sponge coral is very porous so it is lightweight, and works very well in handcrafted jewelry. Sometimes the red color is enhanced and come in different shades. The color of very fine coral is an orangey-red and is mostly found in in the South China Sea. Until recently, sponge coral was not used for jewelry. They weren't considered jewelry-quality coral because they had too many holes. I use it alot and accent it with other stones. It can be worn with almost attire from day casual or evening dressy. Matched with oval black lava stones here in this set, it is a stunning mix.

A must have for anyone. Sponge coral and lava stone, what a beautiful combination!
